Integrating technology into specialist suites

Specialist consulting today involves digital imaging, telehealth, electronic prescribing and a growing range of in-room diagnostic devices. The buildings that house these practices need to be planned around that technology rather than retrofitted around it after handover.

Integrating technology into specialist suites

Cabling and connectivity

Redundant data drops at every workstation, dedicated cabling for imaging and AV, and a properly ventilated comms room are the foundations. Wi-Fi should be designed as a clinical service, not an amenity.

Telehealth-ready rooms

At least one consult room per suite should be optimised for telehealth - acoustic separation, considered lighting, a neutral background and a discreet camera position. The pandemic-era 'laptop on the desk' setup no longer meets patient expectations.

AV in waiting and education

Digital signage and patient education displays are increasingly part of the patient journey. Power, data and mounting provisions should be coordinated during fit-out, not added later with surface conduit.
